The main objective of the research is to analyze the impact on electricity networks of the connection of new renewable plants on the 2030 horizon under different possible scenarios, and to develop proposals to facilitate the decarbonisation objectives to be achieved in the most efficient possible way. A methodology has been developed to estimate the transmission and distribution grid reinforcements required for the integration of certain renewable generation targets in a nationwide system. The potential of adopting flexible grid access schemes to increase the connection of renewable generation with mixed solar/wind/battery schemes has also been investigated.

Layman's summary: The massive integration of renewable energy generation into the electricity system could imply significant needs for reinforcement of its transmission and distribution networks. The project develops a methodology to estimate these needs, and explores the possibilities offered by flexible grid connection schemes to facilitate such integration.
